Taking Advantage of the Green Economy

Everywhere you go there is talk of the "Green Economy". Businesses are declaring that they are eco-friendly. Grocery stores and retail outlets have separate sections with green products. Even our President is beating the drumbeat of the green movement by designating 2.3 billion dollars in tax credits to businesses that produce clean and renewable energy.

There is money to be made in the "Green Economic" movement, and African American entrepreneurs need to embrace this growing phenomenon.

Here are five tips to help in this process:

  • Become Green Savvy: The first step in any business is to research the market. Spend time learning how eco-friendly products and practices are shaping our lives today and will in the future.
  • Join the Network:  In the "Green Economy" reputation is everything. So get certified. Then you can place eco-friendly certification on your products and marketing materials.
  • Take Advantage of Governmental Efforts: Uncle Sam is providing direct funds and tax credits for green business practices and services. Make sure the government’s favorable initiatives are a part of your business strategy.
  • Look for Partnerships with Businesses: Companies are more sensitive to eco-friendly trends than individuals so focus on corporate dollars.
  • Create Awareness: Let your service become part of a greater campaign concerned about the need for eco-friendly practices in the African American community. This will build your business and increase your visibility in the corporate sector.
