Reaching African American children with a positive message on healthy lifestyle issues to combat childhood obesity and prevent illnesses like diabetes.

 
The Facts:
  • 35 % of African American children between the ages of 6 and 11 have been designated as in danger of being obesity. (CDC National  Center for Health Statistic, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2002)
  • 40% of African American children between the ages of 12 and 19 have  been designated as in danger to obesity. (CDC National Center for  Health Statistic, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2002)
  • African American boys and girls are 3.5 to 6.1 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than white boys and girls. (Chris Woolston,Type 2 Diabetes: Growing Epidemic Among Teens, in Health Me,  Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts)
